In the Youth Sector, there are plenty of organizations looking for young, highly motivated team members to play an active part in their organization and to contribute to the daily work routine of the organization.
Projects Description: Youth Sector
In the youth work sector, young people find help when they are in need of it. One example could be that young people can’t live with their families anymore due to domestic violence; drug abuse or they come as unaccompanied minor refugees to Germany.
Tasks for the volunteers are spending the afternoons with the young people, organizing free time activities and participating in them, playing games, going on excursions, accompanying them to appointments like doctor visits, having meals with the youngsters and helping them with their homework. According to your level of German, you might be asked to do garden work, kitchen work or do the shopping.
Please note: Some of the Young People are multiple disadvantaged and sometimes have psychological issues.
Volunteer’s report
Sanjana (2017) writes: “My daily routine includes preparing the list of absences, talking to the young people about their daily routine, supporting the young people during their leisure activities, checking the young people’s cleaning of the accommodation groups and cooking together. I have already cooked Indian food with two different living groups. We had an intercultural conversation and found out the similarities and differences between India and Germany. My first project is called “Boogie Woogie Club”. First I prepared a poster, a list of participants and some club rules. I presented about India with PowerPoint and showed Bollywood dance. The young people were excited to get to know this new dance.”
