Project Description

Although farming and fishing are considered primary sources of income and commerce in the Philippines, it is surprisingly becoming one of the neglected professions, especially for the young generation. If this trend continues, it will significantly affect the economic stability of the Philippines. This programme enables volunteers to participate in advocating for sustainable farming through model farm projects, island green movement, garden classroom, and social entrepreneurial ventures.

Soft skills and other requirements

Interest in agriculture, farming, and well being of the target beneficiaries of the organization. You should have good communication skills and team spirit. You should also be well-organized, mature, independent, and show a commitment and passion for community development. Likewise, you should be willing to adapt to a foreign environment (e.g. learn a local dialect such as Cebuano, Tagalog), and be flexible and open-minded.

Housing / meals details

Participants will stay with host families who will provide the meals. A regular meal costs around Php50-100 (1-2USD) per meal. However, participants are expected to be responsible for their own transportation. Transportation fees will not exceed Php100 (2USD) per day (roundtrip).

Social life

The Philippines is a tropical country and an archipelago with more than 7,400 islands. Participants can spend their weekends by traveling in nearby beaches, waterfalls, mountains, lakes etc. We also have several festivals every month nationwide. They can join these street parties, eat local foods, join family activities and experience city life.

Foods and transportation are inexpensive with a regular meal that ranges Php50-100 (1-2USD) and jeepney minimum fare of Php8.00
