The public schools’ system in Costa Rica is one of the major investments of the country. However, compared with the developed countries, the local high schools still need greater support, creativity and helping hands to overcome their current limits and to open the doors of a better future for the teenagers of Costa Rica.
The AFS international volunteers contribute to public schools or non-profit educational organizations (high school level), supporting educational and extracurricular activities, while sharing and learning with local teenagers. As these are community based organizations, the international volunteers also have the opportunity to integrate in the community, live with a local family and improve their Spanish language skills.
The specific activities to be done can vary, depending of the specific need of the hosting organizations and the abilities, initiative and interest of the international volunteers.
