Help provide quality education to children who are less fortunate in the capital of the Dominican Republic.
Located in Santo Domingo, the child care centre’s mission is to provide underprivileged children with access to quality education. Run by Catholic nuns and volunteers, the centre provides care for children between the ages of 3 to 6 years, while children between 7 to 14 years old attend primary school. The families of the children come from low-income neighbourhoods and often lack the basic services such as healthcare and adequate food supply. They may have also witnessed crime and violence within their neighborhood and homes.
You will assist in all daily activities in and outside of school. Activities may include shower time, meal time, outdoor sports, and teaching basic levels of math, music, computer, grammar, geography and English. Opportunities to work as a nurse’s assistant are also available should you have sufficient medial knowledge.
You will be guided and supported by the school staff while taking part in orientations upon arrival, during mid-stay, and at the end of your stay. During these orientations, you’ll learn about the importance of relationship-building with your host family and local community.
